Across borders with VNG Annual Congress

Recently the annual congress of the Association of Dutch Municipalities (Vereniging Nederlandse Gemeenten, VNG) took place in the MECC in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Each year the congress is hosted in a different municipality.

With an audience of approximately 3.000 people the congress was opened by the mayor of Maastricht, Annemarie Penn-te Strake. The main theme of the event was ‘Across Borders’. They spoke about crossing lines, your own limits and the limit of our climate. With Twan Huys as moderator, Bernice Notenboom spoke about the limitations of our climate and her experiences in the Arctic, Tommy Wieringa spoke about the mayors in border areas and Andre Rieu spoke about the effect of music on people.

Heuvelman and the VNG

For the sixth time in a row Heuvelman was responsible for the complete production of the event. With the main theme in our heads, our content designers planned out a special widescreen projection for the event. The in total 55 meters broad screen existed of two parts projection, with a LED screen in the middle. The content for this widescreen was also designed by our Content department. The presentations and speakers were displayed on the widescreen to make sure that all 3.000 local officials could follow everything. Afterwards our content designers used this same footage to make an aftermovie, which was shown on the second congress day. The event could also be viewed via a live stream online. Heuvelman was not just responsible for the audiovisual technology and the content, but also for the complete décor and set of the congress location.

Heuvelman has a close relation with the MECC in Maastricht, the Netherlands, where the VNG congress was hosted this year. Heuvelman has supported the MECC with their daily activities in the field of digital signage.
